To configure a specific action for such file types, which are not included by default in the GFI WebMonitor file-type list, perform the following steps:- Locate the content-type of the specific file-type
- Configure GFI WebMonitor to block or scan web downloads with the same content-type
Step 1: Locate the content-type of the object being downloaded
To check the exact content-type of the download using the following procedure in GFI WebMonitor 2015 and newer:
- Browse to the HTTP web site where the file is located
- Download the file
- Open the GFI WebMonitor Console
- Select Dashboard -> Activity -> Websites/Applications
- When the file is downloaded, click Refresh and locate the downloaded file in the URL field. If there are a lot of entries in the list, search for the URL of the downloaded file
- In the Status field, the content-type of the downloaded file can be verified
- Example: application/x-ms-wmv is indicative of a *.wmv file
To check the exact content-type of the download, use the following procedure within GFI WebMonitor 2013 and earlier:
- Browse to the HTTP web site where the file is located
- Download the file
- Open the GFI WebMonitor Console
- Expand Monitoring -> Past Connections
- When the file is downloaded, click Refresh and locate the downloaded file in the URL field. If there are a lot of entries in the list, search for the URL of the downloaded file
- In the Status field, the content-type of the downloaded file can be verified
- Example: application/x-ms-wmv is indicative of a *.wmv file
Step 2: Add the content-type to the GFI WebMonitor Console:
In WebMonitor 2015 and newer:
- From the GFI WebMonitor Console, select Manage -> Policies
- Select the AV Scanning Policy to be modified and click the Edit icon
- Select Customer File Types from the File Types module
- In the Insert Content File Type field, add the new content-type. For example: application/x-ms-wmv
- Click the Add button and click Save Settings to apply the changes
In WebMonitor 2013 and earlier:
- From the GFI WebMonitor Console, expand Web Security Edition
- Select Download Control Policy or Virus Scanning Policy, and select the appropriate node
- Select the appropriate Policy and click the Edit icon
- For Download Control Policies, select the Download Control tab. For Virus Scanning Policies, select the Virus Scanning tab.
- Click Add Content-type
- In the Content-Type field, add the new content-type. For example: application/x-ms-wmv .
- Click the Add button and click on Save Settings to apply the changes
