Answer
When not using authentication in GFI WebMonitor you can monitor and control the HTTP/HTTPS traffic of mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops etc.) by specifying their IP devices in the Apply Policy to: in a selected Internet Policy.
If these devices are assigned their IP's through a DHCP pool, it is important that the whole pool of IP's is inserted in the Apply Policy to:. To reduce administrative overhead, it is recommended that the pool is restricted to a realistic number of IP's given.
For example, if the maximum of concurrently wireless devices using the same wireless router/AP is 5, the pool needs to be set to accommodate 7-8 IP's and not 100.
Having the whole pool of IPs listed in the Apply Policy to: list will guarantee that every IP leased out by DHCP is monitored and filtered appropriately.
If you are using authentication in GFI WebMonitor, the devices are presented with authentication credentials box. If users enter a domain username and password, they authenticate and the policy that applies to the authenticated user is used in GFI WebMonitor.
