Answer
PROBLEM
GFI WebMonitor policies are not applying for the users that are created from email addresses. Microsoft Windows 8.1 and Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 allow to create an user from an email address. These users are not listed in GFI WebMonitor.
ENVIRONMENT
- GFI WebMonitor
- Microsoft Windows 8.1 or Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
SOLUTION
On Microsoft Windows 8.1 an user account can be created based on an email address, but (in the background) they are saved differently (as seen in Computer Management). For example creating a user account based on the email address webmon@hotmail.com, the operating system will create the following user: webmon_000.
In order to make it to work with GFI WebMonitor, you need to find the username assigned by the system to the user and search for that user. In a domain environment check AD users and computers and in a workgroup search for the users account, then search for this user name to apply the policies or exceptions to the corresponding user.
CAUSE
Users created from emails as described above have different system user names which must be used instead of their assigned email address.
