Overview
This article explains how GFI WebMonitor determines Surf Time.
Information
GFI WebMonitor's Monitoring section shows Surf Time Report under the Reports drop down.
Surf Time is an approximate time calculated by observing access to web sites. Every time a user accesses a website, one minute of Surf Time is added for that user, and during this period, the user can access other web sites. When the minute has elapsed, another minute will be added if the user is still browsing.
Surf Time for websites is calculated in a similar way. If a website is accessed by one or more users during the one minute, only a minute will be added to the Surf Time counter. Any other access after the minute has elapsed will add another minute to the counter for that site.
Important Notes
- Only access to HTML files will count when calculating the Surf Time.
- GFI WebMonitor adjusts the Surf Time to allow certain automatic web access, which minimizes the web activity shown in Surf Time that is not generated by users.
