Disabling the Use of Windows Live Applications with GFI WebMonitor 2013

Overview

This article provides the steps required to disable Windows Live applications, e.g., Skydrive, in GFI WebMonitor 2013. 

 

Process 

To disable Skydrive and most of the Windows Live applications, you can insert the below URLs in the Always Blocked policy:

  • *.login.live.com 
  • *.secure.shared.live.com 
  • *.ssw.live.com 

These URLs will block the authentication process to the Windows Live features. To add these entries to the Always Blocked list and disable the use of Windows Live applications, follow the below steps:

  1. Open the GFI WebMonitor Console.

  2. Select the Settings tab.

  3. Expand the Policies menu.

  4. Click on the Always Blocked policy.

  5. Select the type of entry to be added, in this case, Site.

  6. Enter the URLs to be blocked:

    • *.login.live.com 
    • *.secure.shared.live.com 
    • *.ssw.live.com

  7. Click Add.

Note: For GFI WebMonitor 2015, or later, you can use the Application Policies to allow or block applications in your network.
